2014: Healthy Soil + Fertile Land + Food Security
Rural farmers in southeast Africa often meet an immediate need to feed their families at the expense of long-term ecosystem and soil health. Climate change ups the ante by making successful farming more difficult. Tested sustainable agriculture practices can help smallholder farmers create a more stable and healthy food supply in the face of climate change. This multidisciplinary team will work alongside farmers and communities to build a culturally appropriate curriculum around climate change, agroecology, child nutrition, and social equity. The collaborative program will improve food security and nutrition, increase soil health, and build healthy, resilient rural communities.
