Helping Create a More Resilient
New York State

With Cornell Atkinson AVF support, Fellow Alistair Hayden (Veterinary College) was already exploring how to incorporate wildfire smoke hazards into policy when Canadian wildfires blanketed Cornell and the Northeast in June 2023. He then ensured that air-quality detectors were installed across New York state, aided by the Rapid Response Fund. Now, empowered by The 2030 Project's Climate Solutions Fund, Hayden is working with Fellow Rebecca Morgenstern Brenner (Brooks School) to develop community-based resilience hubs for natural disaster and social equity planning, similar to those in California.
