Faculty Leadership in Sustainability
Cornell Atkinson provides connectivity and synergy in faculty-led sustainability endeavors across campus. The center engages more than 600 Faculty Fellows whose work and research touch on crucial sustainability areas related to food, energy, climate, and health. In addition, Cornell Atkinson’s four Faculty Directors are the lifeblood of the center—building bridges across disciplines on campus and coalescing new ideas.
We also seek endowments to secure the center’s key faculty leaders, who are critical to our ability to embark on new, groundbreaking research across disciplines and grow our collaborations with external partners.
We have secured endowments for two of our Faculty Director positions to date; we now seek to endow the remaining two positions. The center’s namesake believes so strongly in these leadership positions that he committed to a matching challenge to inspire others to endow these critical roles. The full cost of each endowment is $3 million, but one of the opportunities has a 1:2 matching leverage. The next $2 million gift to endow a Faculty Director position will be matched 1:2 with $1 million in matching funds to meet the full cost. Please contact Leah Tuck, Director of Development, if you would like to support this campaign priority.
Recruiting and Engaging Top Faculty In Sustainability: Cornell Atkinson Scholars
Under Cornell’s Radical Collaboration Sustainability initiative, Cornell Atkinson is helping fill critical intellectual gaps at Cornell with coordinated hires of eight senior faculty in sustainability with appointments across campus. As Cornell Atkinson Scholars, these faculty will focus in part on the research themes and initiatives outlined in Cornell Atkinson’s strategic plan.
We are seeking to endow three Cornell Atkinson Scholars over the course of the campaign. Please contact Leah Tuck, Director of Development, if you would like to discuss this campaign priority.
