Alexander Mathys

Alexander Mathys is a professor in the Department of Health Sciences and Technology at ETH Zurich where he leads the Sustainable Food Processing group since 2015. A multi-indicator sustainability assessment as guidance tool is the foundation of the emerging food process development. Innovative raw materials from algae and insects are utilized within circular economy concepts to enable new ways of sustainable food supply. Alexander is food technologist and received his Dr.-Ing. in food processing in 2008. He was Head of the Bioeconomy Department at the German Institute of Food Technologies DIL in 2012-2015 and worked on emerging bioprocessing at the Nestlé Research Centre Lausanne in 2009-2012. Alexander was selected “Young Researcher” of the 60th Meeting of Nobel Laureates 2010 and “Einstein Young Scholar 2010” at the Falling Walls conference.
