2021: A New Data-driven Approach to Rethink Sustainable, High-density Urban Environments in the Light of Pandemic Resilience
The COVID-19 crisis reveals the vulnerability of cities as the focal point of the current pandemic. Sustainability, pandemic resilience, and the design of our built environment are closely linked. Long-standing planning paradigms that promote urban density to enhance social life, increase efficiency, and support sustainability must be re-evaluated. A multidisciplinary team will combine emerging data on COVID-19, urban geospatial data, mobility simulations, and epidemiological modeling to develop a new data-driven tool that will help urban designers and planners to transform our cities into healthy and sustainable urban environments.
