Dr. Marcelo Chan Fu Wei is a 2026 EDF-Cornell Atkinson Joint Postdoctoral Associate at Farmers DataLab. An agronomist by training, he has been working at the intersection of digital and precision agriculture since his undergraduate studies.
His research focuses on applying precision and digital agriculture tools for sustainable crop production within On-Farm Experimentation (OFE) frameworks. By leveraging spatial and temporal data analysis, remote sensing, yield modeling, and causal analysis, Dr. Wei contextualizes and translates complex data into actionable insights. His work supports informed, evidence-based decision-making for multiple stakeholders, including farmers, managers, and crop consultants, with the goal of increasing sustainable agricultural productivity.
An active researcher and author of multiple scientific articles, Dr. Wei has a track record of international and multidisciplinary collaborations. His international experience includes research engagements at Colorado State University (USA, 2015), collaborations on innovation at the nexus of food, energy, and water systems (Chicago, USA, 2019), and Hainan University (China, 2025).
He holds a degree in Agronomy from the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar, Brazil) and both a Master’s and a Ph.D. in Agricultural Systems Engineering from the University of São Paulo (ESALQ/USP), Brazil.
Designing a Reliable and Scalable Sampling Strategy for Regional Soil Carbon Stock Monitoring
In this joint project, Dr. Wei evaluates frameworks to improve soil carbon sampling strategies. His work aims to advance Measurement, Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MMRV) metrics, enhancing both the cost-effectiveness and geographic representativeness of soil sampling for agricultural carbon markets.
